RESUMO

The study was cross-sectional research that surveyed 410 nurses and midwives from March 2020 to March 2021 in Turkey. The aim of this study was to evaluate the knowledge and attitudes of nurses and midwives towards recognizing violence against women. The "Scale for Nurses' and Midwives' Recognition of the Symptoms of Violence against Women" were used. The average total scale score was 20.3 ± 3.2. The score of participants who are receiving postgraduate education, working in the field of gynaecology and obstetrics, and considering intervention as a professional responsibility when encountering a woman who has experienced violence was found to be significantly higher than the other groups (p<.05). It is important for midwives and nurses to be aware of signs of violence to identify violence against women. Providing education to midwives and nurses regarding signs of violence against women will contribute to the recognition, prevention, and awareness of violence.


L'étude était une recherche transversale qui a enquêté sur 410 infirmières et sages-femmes de mars 2020 à mars 2021 en Turquie. L'objectif de cette étude est d'évaluer les connaissances et les attitudes des infirmières et des sages-femmes envers la reconnaissance de la violence contre les femmes. L'échelle de reconnaissance des symptômes de la violence contre les femmes des infirmières et des sages-femmes a été utilisée. Le score moyen total de l'échelle était de 20,3 ± 3,2. Le score des participants qui suivent une formation de troisième cycle, travaillant dans le domaine de la gynécologie et de l'obstétrique, et considérant l'intervention comme une responsabilité professionnelle lorsqu'ils rencontrent une femme victime de violence s'est avéré significativement plus élevé que les autres groupes (p<.001). Il est important que les sages-femmes et les infirmières soient conscientes des signes de violence pour identifier la violence contre les femmes. Fournir une éducation aux sages-femmes et aux infirmières concernant les signes de violence contre les femmes contribuera à la reconnaissance, à la prévention et à la sensibilisation à la violence.

This study aims to determine contraceptive intentions of pregnant women in the third trimester. This cross-sectional study was conducted at a training and research hospital in Mardin province between March 2023 and May 2023. In total, 253 pregnant women who had the ability to communicate in Turkish and agreed to participate were included in the study. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews using a survey and the Contraceptive Intent Questionnaire (CIQ). The average age of the participants was 28.87 ±â€…5.35 with 30.8% of them holding a secondary school degree. It was found that there was a statistically significant difference in terms of CIQ score between categories of the following descriptive variables: education level, husband's/partner's education level, fertility plan, receiving family planning counseling during pregnancy, and paying for the contraceptive methods used (P = .046, P = .013, P < .001, P = .008, and P < .001 respectively). It was determined that pregnant women who had not received family planning counseling during pregnancy and paid for the contraceptive method had higher contraception intention.

Background Antenatal breastfeeding training is defined as the provision of breastfeeding information during pregnancy, which can be given in various ways, such as individual training and group training. The inclusion of fathers in this educational approach is associated with the initiation of breastfeeding, exclusive breastfeeding and duration of breastfeeding. However, studies involving fathers are limited. This randomized controlled study aimed to compare the effects of individual and group training given to parents and those of normal hospital practices on mothers' breastfeeding self-efficacy and fathers' attitudes toward breastfeeding. Methods The study was conducted randomly in a training and research hospital between March 2014 and September 2014 and included 180 people. Of them, 90 were prospective mothers who were in the third trimester of their pregnancy and were living with their husbands and received service from the obstetrics outpatient clinic of the hospital. The expecting mothers and their husbands were randomly assigned to three groups: individual training, group training and control group. After randomization, prospective mothers and fathers in all groups received training. In the first week, sixth week, and fourth month after delivery, the mothers' breastfeeding self-efficacy and breastfeeding attitudes as well as the attitudes of the fathers' toward breastfeeding were evaluated. Results There were no differences between the groups in terms of variables such as age, education status, family type, breastfeeding education status, and mode of delivery. There were significant differences between the scores obtained from the Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale and its subscales in all three groups during the postpartum period (p <0.05). The highest scale scores were obtained at the postpartum fourth month in the individual training and control groups and at the postpartum sixth week in the group training group. There were differences between the scores obtained by the mothers and fathers during the postpartum process from the Iowa Infant Feeding Attitude Scale (p<0.05). Conclusion The analysis of all the results indicates that breastfeeding education given to parents in the antenatal period increases their breastfeeding self-efficacy and provides them with a positive attitude toward breastfeeding. However, further research is needed to determine whether individual or group training contributes to the development of breastfeeding self-efficacy and attitudes.

PURPOSE: This study aims to identify NANDA-I nursing diagnoses that midwives working in obstetrics and gynecologic service use while managing the electronic nursing care process. METHODS: This retrospective study was conducted in a descriptive way to evaluate electronic care plan records of 3025 patients staying in obstetrics and gynecologic service between April 1, 2020. and April 1, 2021. Diagnoses in the records of the electronic care process were digitalized by two faculty members. Then, NANDA-I nursing diagnoses used by midwives were identified. NANDA-I nursing diagnoses used by midwives were identified. FINDINGS: It was determined that diagnoses in care plans documented from the system within the 1-year period fell into eight domains and 10 classes, and 5819 diagnoses were given in total. The most frequent diagnoses given in obstetrics and gynecologic service were "acute pain" and "risk for bleeding." CONCLUSION: Findings of this study revealed that nursing care records in obstetrics and gynecologic service did not have a large number of diagnoses and interventions. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING PRACTICE: Care plans directly reflect the contribution of the care to the patient. Consequently, midwives being aware of and recording nursing diagnoses while giving care will ensure a standardized language and visibility in care. More coverage of midwifery-related diagnoses in the midwifery curriculum will make NANDA-I nursing diagnoses more visible in midwifery as well.

OBJECTIVE: This research investigated the effects of different breastfeeding training techniques for primiparous mothers before discharge on the incidence of cracked nipples. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This was a controlled intervention study that was carried out between 2015 and 2016 on 90 mothers living in Izmir. The mothers were divided into three groups: the demonstration-based training group, brochure group, and routine care-receiving group. The mothers in the "brochure group" were provided with breastfeeding training brochures. Mothers in the demonstration-based training group received one-to-one training using designed doll and puppet tools. RESULTS: The rate of cracked nipples at age 2 weeks was 63.3% in the routine care-receiving group, 56.7% in the brochure group, and 20% in the demonstration-based training group. At the end of the fourth week, the rate was 30% in the routine care-receiving group and less than 10% in the other two groups (p < 0.005). The LATCH scores were higher in the demonstration-based training group than in the other two groups (p < 0.05). There was no significant difference between the groups in the percentage of exclusive breastfeeding. CONCLUSION: The results documented that breastfeeding training based on one-to-one demonstration utilizing specially designed audiovisual tools was more effective than the other two methods in the prevention of nipple cracks.

AIM: The studies on human milk banking in Turkey, has being carried out at a hospital in Izmir province. There are different point of views about milk banking. The aim of the study is to determine the knowledge and the views of the mothers towards milk banking. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This study is a cross-sectional survey. The study was carried out with 404 mothers who gave birth in a two maternity hospitals and one university hospital in Izmir using the face-to-face interview technique between March 2014 and June 2014. The study data were collected using a 30-item socio-demographic questionnaire. RESULTS: The mothers' mean age was 28.4 years (16-46 years). Of the mothers, 45.5% were primary school graduates, 80.2% were members of a nuclear family, 75.7% had less than three children, 63.4% gave birth by caesarean section and only 79.5 percent were able to breastfeed before being discharged. Of the mothers, 41.6% were aware of milk banking, 71.3% were willing to receive milk bank services and 68.8% were willing to donate breastmilk. 62.2% of those who did not want to make donation stated risk of contagion as a reason, 8.2% of the participants had worked as wet-nurse before. CONCLUSIONS: Most mothers revealed positive approaches and opinions about establishment of milk banking and milk donation. However, there were some concerns due to the risk of infectious diseases and religious beliefs. Efforts should be made to raise awareness and mothers should be informed about the importance of breast milk and breastfeeding so that milk banks can be regarded as an additional choice.
